Durations
trio for violin, tuba, and piano
not what you expect in chamber music
Made up of violinist Annie Chalex Boyle, tubist Kevin Wass, and pianist Susan Wass, DURATIONS is a new chamber ensemble at the School of Music in the J. T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University. The ensemble is named after the work they first performed on Texas Tech's "Collaborations" Faculty Chamber Music series in 2016, Morton Feldman's "Durations 3." Durations was recently a featured ensemble at the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference in the summer of 2019 and will make a repeat appearance on the TTU Collaborations series in 2020.
Embracing the Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts motto of "Vastly Different," the ensemble's goal is to explore the possibilities of this somewhat unorthodox instrumentation through performance of existing works, transcriptions of works for other trio instrumentations, and commissioning of new pieces. At home in styles from Renaissance to modern, Durations seeks to inspire other musicians, expand possibilities for non-traditional ensembles, and connect with diverse audiences.
